About this piece

This is what happens when traditional materials get to speak for themselves. Two long strands of white dentalium shell — the real thing, the good stuff — spaced with faceted red and warm amber glass beads that catch light like little embers between snow. The strands connect at the top with a soft dark brown leather strap that sits easy against the back of your neck. This piece hangs long — approximately 28 inches — and drapes beautifully over a simple top or a ribbon dress. The combination of dentalium, glass, and leather is intentional. These are materials Indigenous people have worked with for generations, and I wanted this necklace to feel like it carries that weight without being heavy. Minimal hardware. No clasp — the leather strap is the closure. One piece, one necklace, will never be made again. Handmade by an Indigenous artist — each piece is unique. I sat with this one awhile. It told me when it was done. Now it's yours if you move quick.
